The San Foundation recently had the honor of hosting our inaugural STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) event at the Clinical Education Centre (CEC). This groundbreaking event brought together nine esteemed medical professionals and welcomed over 200 enthusiastic girls from years 10 and 11, representing schools such as Abbotsleigh Girls School, Loreto Normanhurst, Pymble Ladies' College, Ravenswood School for Girls, Adventist School Wahroonga, and more.
Our exceptional lineup of speakers included:

- Dr. Elizabeth Shaw - Structural and Interventional Cardiologist
- Dr. Emily Granger - Cardiothoracic Surgeon

- Eliza Kenny - Senior Director Operations, AHCL
- Dr. Suelyn Lai-Smith - Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

These incredible professionals shared their journeys, challenges, and successes, providing valuable insights and serving as inspiring role models for the students. The event was designed to empower young women to explore careers in STEMM fields and to show them the profound impact they can have in these areas.
Students had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to excel in the medical and scientific fields. The atmosphere was electric, with a palpable sense of excitement and inspiration that filled the room.
We were also thrilled to have representatives from The Australian National University (ANU), San Education, and Avondale University join us, adding to the event's richness and success. Their presence underscored the importance of fostering connections between education and career opportunities in STEMM.
The feedback we received from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many students and educators expressing how impactful and motivating the event was. It’s clear that the inaugural STEMM event has left a lasting impression, encouraging the next generation of women to pursue their passions in these critical fields.
A special thank you goes out to Medtronic for their generous sponsorship, which played a crucial role in making this event possible. We also extend our gratitude to all the participants, speakers, and organizers who contributed to the success of this inspiring afternoon. Together, we are paving the way for a future where women in STEMM lead, innovate, and make a difference in the world.
